Part I – JOURNAL ENTRY NUMERO UNO!
So anyone who knows me deep down
gets that I’m a solid Nintendo fan at heart — but like any fan (even the most dedicated ones out there), we all have our flaws. I would have to say that I am no different. Get ready for it…
Here it comes….
Truth time……… !
I never purchased a Nintendo Switch, nor even played one for longer than an hour at a time.
It gets worse.
What I have played of it has been not much more than “demo games” that cycle out and restart after a few minutes. For someone like me, who has at one point or another owned and played EVERY prior Nintendo console ever known to man (except for the foreign ones only available in other countries on exclusive, limited bases), this is a HUGE deal. I am somewhat ashamed to admit it, but ah, now it’s been said. And I can fully breathe out that nice sigh of relief…..the truth has been spoken, and the world now knows how imperfect of a gamer Efrain Silva really is.
all this goes to say that, when I HAVE played the Switch at my local Target store (demo console and demo reloading games, I must repeat, for emphasis), I had some genuine fun. Now, why did I choose not to buy a Switch? I can’t say with full certainty, but I can take a good crack at a few valid reasons….
1. I was just not in the mood to dump that much money on yet ANOTHER new console.
This one’s a valid one, right? It’s easy to understand. I mean, after all, at this point, I’ve already spent hundreds of dollars (okay thousands, if we’re being honest here) on Nintendo consoles, games, controllers, and other hardware/fan merch.
2. I was in a different stage of busy life and felt like it could be an unhealthy DISTRACTION.
I was new to the working world, as well as college, and wasn’t sure if I’d be able to carve out the time. What if I got addicted? What if it ended up costing me my studies, job, and other facets of social life?
I figured a newer, better console than this one would come out shortly after, so why spend on this one now?
It’s no big secret that new consoles/platforms are coming out with a quickness these days. Maybe I got tired of trying to keep up. Who knows?
4. I didn’t really like the design of the console, its look, its games, or what it claimed to offer in general.
I won’t lie. This system never appealed to me. It was marketed poorly.
